Fourth In-Person Annual Plenary Meeting for the HIPPOCRATES Consortium

The fourth HIPPOCRATES Annual Plenary Meeting took place in Amsterdam from the 25th-26th June.

The HIPPOCRATES consortium reconvened face to face for their 2025 Annual Plenary Meeting in Amsterdam for two days of productive discussions. The meeting was preceded by a focus group meeting which is part of the responsive evaluation of Patient Research Partner (PRP) involvement in HIPPOCRATES. The two focus groups consisting of PRPs and researchers concentrated on barriers and facilitators to effective patient and public involvement (PPI) in HIPPOCRATES. The results will be relayed to all HIPPOCRATES partners to inform future Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) activities. The central role of our PRPs in HIPPOCRATES was also emphasised on the first day of the plenary meeting with an insightful presentation from the PRPs and guest speaker Marije Koenders, who shared her valuable experiences with successful patient involvement.

Another focus of this year were early-career researchers, who jumpstarted the plenary meeting with flash talk presentations, setting the tone for a dynamic exchange of ideas. This was continued during the breaks with the new addition of a poster viewing area that fostered engaging and productive conversations. The meeting proceeded with the first part of presentations on progress achieved in the work packages with time to ask dedicated questions and start discussions. Day one closed with an inspiring keynote by Geert D’Haens on the future of Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases (IMID) management and the General Assembly meeting. The work package and work group presentations resumed on the second day. The agenda also included a Sustainability Workshop that focused on the future Biofluid and Tissue Based Work, the HPOS study, the UK Biobank, and sustainability of SHDMP and included productive discussions amongst all work packages. The meeting closed with a detailed summary and a HIPPO award ceremony. The HIPPO awards honour those who have extensively contributed to the project within the past year and are awarded every year. Congratulations to Robert Gurke, Sina Mackay, Martin Brom, Marleen van de Sande, Patricia Riedlova, Katie Gallacher, Filippo Fagni, and Deborah Warren, well deserved!

We are looking forward to another successful project year.
